The WhatsApp Business API lets a company connect WhatsApp to software, so a whole team and an AI assistant can handle customer messages from one number. If your business in the UAE has outgrown a single phone, this is the step up.
The short version: The API has no app of its own. You use it through software such as ServiceBot.ae, which gives you the inbox, automation and reports. Meta charges for certain messages, and the software is a separate subscription.
What is the WhatsApp Business API?
Meta calls it the WhatsApp Business Platform. It's a connection between WhatsApp and business systems. Instead of typing on a phone, your team works in a shared inbox, while software can reply, send reminders and update records automatically.
What can a UAE business do with it?
- Answer customers automatically, day and night, in English and Arabic
- Let several staff work from one WhatsApp number
- Send booking reminders and payment links
- Send approved offers to customers who agreed to receive them
- Connect WhatsApp to your booking or sales software
What do you need to get started?
- A registered business and a Meta Business account
- A phone number for WhatsApp
- Business verification, if Meta asks for it
- Software that connects to the API
Setup is usually quick once your documents are ready. If you want to keep your current number and app, read our guide to coexistence setup.
How much does it cost?
There are two bills. Meta charges per delivered message, based on the message type and the recipient's country. Your software provider charges a subscription. Our WhatsApp API pricing guide explains Meta's fees, and our pricing page shows ServiceBot.ae packages in AED.
Rules to know before you start
- Customers must agree before you send them marketing messages
- Messages you start must use templates approved by Meta
- Outside the 24-hour customer service window, you can only send templates
- General-purpose AI chatbots aren't allowed, but business assistants are. See Meta's AI chatbot rules
Common questions
Do I need the API if I'm a small business? Not always. If one person answers a few chats a day, the free app may be enough. Compare them in WhatsApp Business app vs API.
Can I keep my existing number? Often, yes, but check how your number is set up first.
Is it only for big companies? No. Garages, salons, clinics and small shops use it once missed messages start costing them sales.
